“The girl with the California smile… ” British native William couldn’t stop thinking of Katy after they’d met unexpectedly in Thailand—twice: once when William missed his bus in Chiang Mai and then again, as fate would have it, 10 days later in a bar in Koh Phi Phi, 800 miles from Chiang Mai. Drawn to a familiar face, the strangers stayed out until 4 a.m. on the beach—watching a distant thunderstorm, playing with a stray cat, and getting to know each other.
Four months later, after hours of video chat and airmailed letters, watching movies, and listening to music together across the Atlantic, William met Katy in San Diego, where they eventually had their first of two wedding ceremonies.
The couple tied the knot first alongside a bridal party of 27—yes, 27!—at the San Diego Botanic Garden. William was surrounded by his best mates, who donned apricot suspenders. Continuing the bright accents, Katy’s bouquet and bohemian flower crown gleamed with bright oranges and pinks, standing out against her soft lace gown.
But the celebration didn’t stop there: A few months later, the newlyweds said “I do” again when they jetted off to England for a backyard wedding blessing in the summer. Blimey, that’s cute! The nearly-weds rented a beachfront Airbnb the night before the big day to host a nontraditional BBQ rehearsal dinner. “This gave us time and opportunities for people to get to know each other before the big day while also providing a place for the bridal party to stay.” Katy’s love for the ocean drove her and her groom to pick a near-seaside wedding. Bright floral accents, long European-style tables, and painted palms proved fun accents for their local and traveling guests to admire. The couple, whose venue was not tented, were surprised by 20 minutes of rain on their big day. Hey, nothing an umbrella can’t fix!
