Long-distance dating is tough as it is. But imagine if you lived on completely opposite sides of an ocean. In the case of Natasha and Michael, she was living in LA while he was about 5,000 miles away in his home country of Scotland. However, once Michael moved to the States full time, putting the hardest part of their romance behind them, the two wasted no time in planning their intimate “I dos.”
There were only 35 guests in attendance for the quaint gathering at Natasha’s grandfather’s home in Westwood. Michael’s brother officiated the ceremony, Natasha’s good friend photographed it, and another friend handled the catering.
“With all the beautiful details we added, we were able to make it feel like something more than just a party,” Natasha says. “We refrained from some of the usual wedding activities and focused on spending time with everyone.”
Of course, Michael’s Scottish upbringing played a part in the big day, too. They guys donned kilts, a bagpiper played as the bride walked down the aisle, and the couple participated in the Scottish tradition of drinking from a quaich, a special two-handle drinking cup/bowl that symbolizes trust and togetherness. As they say in Scotland, slàinte mhath! (Cheers!)
Scottish Sides
Michael’s Scottish heritage was honored through his custom Scottish kilt, a bagpiper, and drinking from a quaich—it symbolizes trust and togetherness, as each person grabs a handle to take a drink, showing they trust one another to share the cup.Natasha had a total crush on her florist’s talents. “Her style has so much flow and tons of texture. I absolutely loved her choices. She wrapped the bouquet in black velvet, which added a romantic feel to it all, and it was perfect.”
Natasha’s something borrowed was her grandmother’s diamond earrings, perfectly accessorizing her simple slip dress.
