They say let them eat cake.
And that’s exactly what these high school sweethearts delivered for guests on their wedding day: 10 cakes—one for every year they’d dated.
But the bride had been piecing together her big day at Rancho Las Lomas long before that. “My dad used to take my brother, sister, and I there when we were little to see the tigers,” Holly says. “He walked me into the bridal suite and across the aisle and told me that one day I could be married there.”
As fate would have it, Brenden and Holly said their “I dos” at the venue on their 10-year anniversary.
The couple certainly had fun putting plenty of personal touches on their big day. They incorporated their high school colors wherever they could (even the ring bearer wore a football jersey from their alma mater!). And Holly carried a bouquet brimming with lilies, just like her grandma did on her wedding day.
But, believe it or not, it was a moment when the bride wasn’t in the spotlight that took the cake. “My 91-year-old grandma broke her hip soon after I got engaged, and the doctors told us she might not walk again. Watching her dance and sing her favorite Frank Sinatra song with me is a memory I will cherish forever.”
An Ode to Those Who’ve Passed
Holly arranged a surprise for Brenden during the ceremony: a bagpiper playing as she walked down the aisle. “The bagpiper was important because we both had bagpipers play at our grandpas’ funerals, so it felt like they were at the ceremony with us,” she explains. “I would love to see his face in that moment again.”
High School Spirit
The couple channeled their high school spirit from head to toe—each donning light-blue shoes for their “I dos.”
