On a day Katie thought would be like any other, Jacob surprised her with a ring—a ring he designed himself using a diamond belonging to his mother. “On the day of the proposal, Jacob had a work event at UC San Diego that he had invited me to,” Katie says. “Little did I know, he had some extra plans in mind!”
Before dinner, the couple snuck off to watch the sunset at the Torrey Pines Gliderport. There, Jacob gifted Katie a box of handwritten letters. Included in the mix was one about their future together. Before Katie finished reading, Jacob was down on one knee and, thanks to a sly photographer, the entire proposal was caught on camera.
The nearly-weds invited 200 close friends and family members to their rustic wedding at Ponte Winery, made picture-perfect with a few personal twists. The bride made her shoes her something blue, and the groom was dapper as ever in a navy suit and floral tie, complete with cufflinks that read, “I love you to the moon and back.”
The best part of all, the bride says, was “doing a first look together before the ceremony. It really helped take away some of the nerves and was such a special and intimate time.”
A One-of-a-Kind Fit
Jacob designed the ring himself, with an assist from Affinity & Co. Jewelers, using the diamond from his mother’s ring.
