Self-proclaimed “boss lady” of Perfectly Poised Events, Laura Armendariz is the epitome of a mover and shaker. Oh, and a creative—in a past life she was a graphic designer!
Here, the lead planner and designer at the Southern California event planning firm dishes on the wedding trends she can’t get enough of and the projects, traits, and details that have taken her portfolio to new heights, ladder most definitely not included.
What traits define you and, as an extension, your company?
Modern-boho, unique, and trend-setting.
What gets you out of bed in the morning?
My three-year-old demanding “peanut butter to the jelly.”
Where is your favorite place?
Home, followed by the beach.
Your job in three words: Designer. Ringmaster. Magic-maker.
What do you love about your job?
The endless opportunity to create.
What’s your go-to motto?
Don’t try to make something/someone work when planning your wedding. If you don’t absolutely love it/them, move on.
Tell us something surprising about yourself.
A few things: I love all living creatures, even snakes and spiders; I am afraid of heights—you won’t see me climbing ladders on wedding days; and I used to do graphic design.
The wedding trend I am obsessed with right now is: wild floral arrangements.
What San Diego wedding venue do you adore?
Darlington House is quickly becoming one of our favorites, and we are dying to work at Leo Carrillo Ranch—I’m a sucker for cacti and peacocks.
Which San Diego wedding vendor do you admire?
Native Poppy. Through their growth, they manage to stay true to their original persona: fun, down to earth, and so so sweet! And their designs are EPIC.
What is your most beloved wedding?
One of my favorite weddings to date was our last-minute beachside elopement for Shailey and Sammy, two of the most incredible people I have ever met. Their love for each other and life itself, as well as their gratitude and sweet demeanor made all of the crazy last-minute hustling so worth it. Everything about this day was pure magic—memories the entire team will never forget.
