Adrian and Valerie’s Classically Catholic SoCal Wedding

When Valerie woke up for the early mass at Saint Mark’s Basilica during a visit to Venice, she thought she was just going to church. She did not notice her beau’s snappy getup or the photographer he hired. He was in good faith about what would happen next—he got down on one knee in the square, and she said yes.

The couple blended Catholic rituals with modern manners for a traditional wedding and a contemporary reception near Long Beach. As they kneeled in front of family friend Deacon Doug, they wore a lasso rosary, honoring their relationship with God and each other. After being announced as Mr. and Mrs., the newlyweds proclaimed their love by releasing doves from heart-shaped baskets outside of St. John Fisher Catholic Church.

In the latter day at Trump National Golf Club, guests lit up the dance floor with their moves and inflatable glow sticks, personalized with the hashtag #HISandHERnandezForever. And instead of stamping signatures into a standard guestbook, friends and kin signed wine and champagne bottles as a nod to Adrian and Valerie’s other affection: wine tasting.

“The champagne, we plan on opening on our one-year anniversary,” Valerie said. “One of the bottles of wine, Mother of Exiles, is our favorite wine. We plan to open that at five years. And the third bottle was gifted to us from my dad, so we want to hold on to that one for a long time.”

After several of unsigned bottles were popped and vinos poured, the night of Holy Matrimony ended with a surprise nosh.

“In-N-Out Burger is our favorite food,” Valerie said. “It only made sense to have the truck roll up toward the end and feed all of our guests again.”

Happily ever after doesn’t get tastier than that!
