Dan and Kohleun met in line for chocolate cupcakes at the wedding of mutual friends on Mission Bay. Though he lived in the Bay Area and she in Oregon then, it didn’t take long for the editorial professionals to hit it off.
Avoiding old-fashioned traditions played a large part in their love story—especially considering that, at the time, said mutual friends’ marriage was not legal nationwide.
They even planned their engagement ahead of time. During a trip to Spain, each proposed to the other two days apart in different Moorish palace gardens.
After settling down in San Diego, the couple had an intimate ceremony with close family in Waterfront Park and, a year later, a quaint sundown reception adorned in ultra violet at Montaña Cielo.
About 40 friends and family came from as far away as Panama and Kenya to Jamul, California, to dine, dance, and indulge in dessert—chocolate cupcakes, of course.
