Katie Schaa, an event coordinator for Sensational Treats, and Kevin King, an insurance underwriter, met in the summer of 2011 at Gonzaga University in Spokane, Washington, and as the bride says, “the rest is fate!” Kevin proposed on a surprise weekend trip to Zion National Park, and then the San Diego–based couple, both 27, didn’t have to go far to find their dream venue, Carmel Mountain Ranch Country Club. That’s where they said “I do” in front of 140 guests in an outdoor ceremony under a greenery-covered gazebo before the party moved indoors, where dinner consisted of local sea bass, fillet of beef, and mushroom ravioli, and the beer and wine flowed. Afterward, everyone enjoyed liquid nitrogen ice cream—when they weren’t too busy breaking it down on the dance floor.
When the couple was looking for a pop of color to add to their palette, they settled on burgundy: “It seemed romantic and it’s a color that looks great on all skin tones,” Katie says.
“My bouquet was lush but loose, with gorgeous peonies and roses in cream, pink, and burgundy,” Katie says. “Layered Vintage made my vision come to life.”
“I have always loved men in navy suits, so that is where it all started,” Katie says about the couple’s day-of color palette. These details for the groom fit their hues handsomely.
“Our venue had gold accents throughout, which made the metallic accent color an easy choice,” Katie says. “We wanted a subtle romantic feeling, so navy, gold, and burgundy were a great fit.”
