Former Phoenix resident Alex Skinner and San Diego–raised Brittany Chin-Lee, both 28, met as students at Pepperdine University, where Brittany is now the director of student activities. She got a surprise proposal from Alex, an actor, on the couple’s six-year anniversary while they were in Seoul to attend her brother’s nuptials. For their wedding, the couple celebrated with 250 friends and family members at Green Acre Campus Pointe in La Jolla, a perfect blend of modern elements and the natural setting they were looking for.
“Before I was even engaged, my dad once told me that he heard about a Chinese American wedding designer named Vera Wang and thought it would be nice if I wore one of her gowns at my wedding someday,” says Brittany. “This dress, which happened to be Vera Wang, was my favorite and when my dad gave his nod of approval, I knew it was the one.”
“We chose purple as an accent because we both love it. Plus, Alex is a huge Phoenix Suns fan, and purple is one of the team’s colors,” says Brittany.
The couple opted for a theme with hints of the Southwest. “We loved the idea of having flowers mixed with succulents and cactus,” says Brittany.
