You know those people who just seem to know every musician, every happening music scene, and can basically pick the perfect song for any moment? Me too – I’m just not one of them. So when I wanted to bring a musical touch to the blog I knew I needed help – enter DJ Kamayo who’s got plenty to say on first dance songs.

DJ Kamayo is a Ventura County based wedding DJ, but has masterfully executed fun events all across Southern California. When it comes to large-scale events and (ahem) weddings, he and his team are unmatched in bringing down the house. See for yourself on his San Diego Wedding DJ page!

Who better to give advice on songs for your first dance? Check out his picks below and feel free to comment with your favorites!

If you’ve attended weddings in the past couple of years you’ve probably heard two songs almost always used for the first dance: “All Of Me” by John Legend or the more recent “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran.

Neither of those made the list!

Instead I’ve handpicked some incredible first dance songs you may not know that just might be the perfect song for your first dance. Think of these five songs as hidden wedding gems that will truly catch the amazing once-in-lifetime moment of a first dance. In no particular order…

Tamia –“Day One”

This R&B gem came out in 2015 but flew under the radar. The vocals just grab you and never let go. “Day One” is of the most beautiful and poetic wedding songs you will ever hear.

Mazzy Star – “Fade Into You”

This timeless classic from the 90’s has dreamy vocals and a slow paced guitar beat that was just meant for first dances. If you want to get lost in the moment, this will do the trick.

Louis Armstrong – “We Have All The Time In The World”

Most people know who Louis Armstrong is, but may not know about this forgotten beauty that came out in 1969. Fun Fact: This love inspired tune was also a theme song of the James Bond film “On Her Majesty’s Secret Service.” (Video uses remastered version for audio quality)

Eric Benet – “The Last Time”

“This is the last time I’ll fall…in love

Eric Benet provides the vocals on this R&B inspired first dance song that talks about the evolution of his love and how he’s fallen in love for the last time(like all wedding couple should!)

Band Of Horses – “No One’s Gonna Love You”

“No one’s gonna love you more than I do”

That’s the hook on this catchy rock ballad from 2007 which has also  been featured on many TV shows over the years.
