After developing a friendship over several years while working at Hughes Marino, Star Hughes, 25, and Steven Gorup, 30, recognized that they shared a mutual crush.
In December 2014, Steven proposed in their candlelit, rose-covered downtown condo among pictures of the two together. Five months later, the pair married at the bride’s childhood home in Rancho Santa Fe, with a ceremony of 30 guests and a reception of 90. Just like their engagement, the classic backyard celebration was intimate, romantic, and personal.
Backyard Wedding
Star always imagined marrying at her parents’ home, where she lived for 17 years. The couple also recently purchased their first home in Rancho Santa Fe, a town close to their hearts.
Princess Dress
The bride originally envisioned a simple, strapless gown. “I tried on four or five dresses that fit my ‘wedding dress’ Pinterest board to a T–but they weren’t feeling right to me.” After putting on a Haley Paige “Dori” gown, Star knew it was the one.
Little Details
Hundreds of candles, mercury glass, and ceramic vases adorned the farm tables to add a vintage feel.
Pop of Pink
The white and gray color palette reflected the interior of the couple’s home, while light pink accents in the flower arrangements and table decor brought a soft and feminine touch.
Country Couple
The bride walked down the aisle to an acoustic rendition of Lady Antebellum’s “American Honey,” and returned down the aisle with her husband to “Cruise” by Florida Georgia Line. “It was a fun way to end the ceremony!” Later, they danced to their first song, Brad Paisley’s “Then.”
Family Style
Star and Steven served family-style dinner dishes, including beef tenderloin, vegetables, strawberry and candied pecan salad, mashed potatoes, macaroni and cheese, sweet potato fries, truffle popcorn, and more comfort food classics.
Tropical Honeymoon
The couple enjoyed a honeymoon stay at One&Only Palmilla in Los Cabos.
