Real Wedding: Lara & Kevin

Today’s real wedding at Estancia La Jolla features two runners who met during training, went on a date after the race, and got engaged at the end of a run.

Lara and Kevin met in a running group in Phoenix. He was training for his first full marathon, and she was training for her first half marathon. They even had their first date was hours after that race! Given their penchant for being active, it’s no surprise that Kevin proposed during a run. “He took me trail running at 6:00 AM on a hot morning in May,” she says. “He beat me up the mountain—which never happens!—and was down on one knee when I got to the top.”

Lara, a UCSD alum, once lived in a dorm across the street from the beautiful Estancia La Jolla. She loved the property’s neutral, understated elegance and the gorgeous landscaping. “My favorite part of Estancia is the Olive Lawn where we got married with the line of trees in the background,” she says. Their ceremony and reception were both filled with thoughtful details, including tissues on every guest’s seat as well as time pieces for each of the groomsmen. “My husband is very handy, and he got into fixing old broken watches several years ago,” she says. “He gave them as gifts to his groomsmen, and they all carried them at the wedding!”
