For a girl who is tough to surprise, Adam really pulled one over on Angela to make their engagement weekend one to remember: While in Kansas visiting Angela’s family, Adam suggested stopping by the church to say a prayer for Angela’s grandmother, with whom she was very close, who passed away a few years ago. Angela loved the idea. As they entered the church – the same church where Angela’s parents were married 35 years ago, and her grandparents – 75 years ago!, Adam led Angela toward the altar where he got down on one knee and asked her to marry him. She was shocked and of course said “yes!” After the proposal, Adam had one more surprise up his sleeve. The month before Angela’s grandmother passed away, they had one last visit with her. She asked the couple, “So when are you two getting married?” And Angela responded, “I don’t know grandma, but when we do, you’ll be the first to know.” Adam recalled this story as he drove Angela to the cemetery immediately after the proposal, so that grandma Louise would indeed be the first to know. The couple began the day of celebrations at breakfast with their families (Adam secretly flew his parents and sister out for the big event), and into the evening with a big 60th birthday bash for Angela’s dad, and an impromptu engagement party for the new bride and groom-to-be!
Angela wanted a comfortable, inviting, and timeless wedding – one she could look back on 20 years from now and still love everything about it. The invitations were done by Momental Designs, and each one was custom made with hand-painted details. The traditional Catholic ceremony was very meaningful and there wasn’t a dry eye in the house when the bride’s friend sang a solo of “How Beautiful.” One of the best parts of the reception, the bride recalls, was when her aunt and uncle led everyone in the Grand March, a Southwest Kansas traditional “follow-the-leader” style dance. They ended the evening with In n Out burgers, fries, and a sparkler exit. The details and emotion from the day were captured beautifully by Dee Dee Dallas from D2 Photography.
