These engagement photos, captured by Studio Castillero in a few of the couple’s favorite spots in Golden Hill, echo chic, simple beauty.
A bit dispirited after 74 online dates, Kristy, a teacher, had few expectations when she came across Lance’s online dating profile one March night in 2013. Having just joined OKCupid.com the night before, Lance had only a few general details about himself listed, but his incredible smile and kind eyes intrigued Kristy. They emailed each other that night, and a couple weeks later, they met at Cucina Urbana in Banker’s Hill for their first date: Lance’s 1st online date, and Kristy’s 75th!
Both the 3rd of 4 children, their good-natured, caring personalities were the perfect complement to each other, and Kristy thought he was the kindest, humblest person she’d ever met. After just 2 months of dating, Kristy flew back to Lance’s hometown of Denver to meet his family, and 7 months later, Lance asked Kristy’s father for his blessing. On New Year’s Eve of 2013, Lance took Kristy to the beautiful, Spanish-inspired Alcazar Garden in Balboa Park where he proposed. Right after she said yes, the couple headed back to Cucina Urbana, the site of their first date, to toast their engagement and ring in a new year of celebration and good fortune. They’ll be married this November at a vineyard in San Diego and plan to honeymoon in Barcelona, Spain.
