While “beach” might be the first word that comes to the mind of many when thinking about San Diego, the Cleveland National Forest, where this couple took their engagement photos, just happens to be in our very own backyard. Situated in Alpine, this beautiful expanse of land is a great option if you’re looking for something unique and different from coastal or beach engagement photos.
Alex and Kris met while they were college freshmen. The two ended up at the same house party one night, and while waiting in a long line for the restroom (we all know that too well!), they chatted long enough to know they had mutual friends, which led them to exchange phone numbers. They became close friends over the first three years at SDSU, and after losing touch for several months during their fourth year of college, they reconnected at graduation and have been together ever since.
For their five-year anniversary, Kris was going to surprise Alex with a romantic dinner overlooking downtown where he planned to propose. However, just days before the special evening, he found out Alex was surprising him with dinner plans. So, he drew up another plan that was sure to throw her off. It was a beautiful weeknight and Kris asked Alex to head to the beach, even though it was fairly late and Alex was already in her pajamas! She finally gave in, and as they sat together looking into the night sky, Alex noticed Kris get down on one knee where she “doesn’t recall exactly what he said, but it was perfect!” and of course Alex said “YES!” Their engagement photos were taken by John Newsome Photography in the Cleveland National Forest, just east of San Diego.
For their wedding day, the couple was looking for venues that fit a casual backyard style wedding and were thrilled to find the Martin Johnson House, a historic oceanfront beach cottage with breathtaking panoramic views of the coastline. They’re also using several amazing local vendors for their wedding day, including Adelaide’s Floral Artistry, Farm Tables and More, and The French Gourmet. Congratulations Alex and Kris! Wishing you two all the best.
