Jason proposed to Megan in the Grand Canyon after surprising her with a helicopter ride straight out of Vegas! She thought they were headed to dinner and a show; little did she know what he had in store! Their real weddings – that’s right, they had TWO! – took place one year apart because Jason, a Marine, was serving overseas. Thank you, Jason, for all you do!
Megan and Jason’s first real wedding was to make their marriage official before Jason was deployed for seven months. He wanted to ensure Megan would be taken care of in case anything happened while he was away – a reality many of our service men and women face, and we thank them for the sacrifices they make to serve our country. While their official wedding day at the courthouse was a special one, they both always wanted a traditional celebration with family and friends, so one year later, they celebrated their marriage with an intimate ceremony and fun reception at Bali Hai in Shelter Island. It was just what they wanted: a light-hearted, happy day full of love and lots of laughter, surrounded by those closest to them.
Because Megan and Jason will soon relocate to Japan for at least three years, their wedding celebration was also an opportunity for them to see everyone one last time before leaving. I love the darling photo next to their guest book, which shows a flight line from the U.S. to Japan with a heart connecting the two. Megan also incorporated a few sentimental elements to the day: she wore her grandmother’s ring in memory of her grandparents; and the cake topper and toasting flutes were her parents’, who have been married 36 years!
