Venue Inspiration: Marry Up!

These penthouse views and sky-high wedding venues are the tops.

—By Natalie Fitzgerald

University Club atop Symphony Towers

What’s up: Located atop Symphony Towers, University Club is the highest point of downtown San Diego’s skyline. A recent $2.4 million renovation project included the expansion of 3,600 additional square feet to accommodate up to 500 guests!

Vitals: Be one of the few who can say they’ve been married here; they only allow 25 weddings a year.

Hotel La Jolla

What’s up: Exchange vows in the 11th floor Starling Ballroom of this newly renovated Kimpton property. Overlooking La Jolla Shores, it’s perfect for a chic and urban-yet-coastal vibe.

Vitals: Hotel La Jolla’s cool eateries, Cusp and Hiatus, make for hip late-night partying. Try one of the trendy cocktails by big-deal Chicago import Nate Howell.

Mt. Helix Park

What’s up: Peaking at approximately 1,300 feet, this landmark offers 360-degree views from the Eastern mountains to the Pacific, and everything in between. Say your vows in one of two locations: the outdoor amphitheater or under the beautiful 35-foot cross.

Vitals: Because receptions at Mt. Helix must conclude before sunset, you’ll need to plan the after-party at a nearby bar.

Sky’s the Limit Ballooning Adventures

What’s up: On a clear day you can see the mountains of Mexico, Catalina Island, Palomar Observatory, La Jolla, Point Loma, and a famous San Diego sunset. Adorn your very own hot air balloon with flowers and streaming ribbons as you float into the sky with your fiancé. Touch back down as husband and wife!

Vitals: Yes, you’ll need to keep the guest list small, but not that small. A private flight can accommodate up to 14 passengers.

Manchester Grand Hyatt’s 32 Bayview Terrace

What’s up: Enjoy views of the San Diego Bay, Coronado, Point Loma, and the bright lights of the downtown skyline through floor-to-ceiling windows.

Vitals: Rent out this VIP space and the entire tower floor is yours, complete with private elevator access and an opulent marble bar.
