My exact words were “I told Alana that I wanted a clean hippie with a dog and a Volkswagen bus — and that’s exactly what I got.” This was my response when Jim asked me to marry him.
For six years, until moving more than 3,000 miles away from everything I knew, I worked in the wedding industry in San Diego. During that time, I heard over 300 engagement stories.
Finally, I have a story of my own to tell. My name is Lauren, and I recently got engaged to the most wonderful person in the world: my Jim.
I was working as the catering manager at Rancho Valencia Resort in Rancho Santa Fe, when I shared what a blue day I was having with one of my recently married brides, Alana. I had a very Charlotte-from-Sex and the City moment: “Everyone else’s lives are moving ahead. I feel so behind…Where is he?!?!?!” Alana, now one of my good friends, said to me: “You need to meet my friend, Jim.” After a year of countless blind dates, my reaction to her was not exactly enthusiastic. But everyone always says it’s when you least expect it…..
And here we are.
Jim and I moved from Encinitas, and are now living on Long Island, N.Y. We’re planning our dream wedding back home in San Diego, equipped with my venues, photographer, florists, dress, baker, jewelry, musicians, and more. My planner brain is on overload, but it feels so good.
I can’t wait to share the experience with you…..
Cheers! Lauren
