Design Inspiration: A Night to Remember

A sparkling soirée at the Andaz Hotel

—Jessica Matteson

Industry insiders Kristy and Clint Griggs, the team behind the savvy furniture rental company Lounge Appeal, knew just what to do when it came to their own rehearsal dinner. With a love for the shiny and sparkly, and all things gold, Kristy needed no further inspiration beside her innate sense of taste to create an elegant, glamorous, and timeless tablescape. The Andaz Hotel provided the rooftop setting with its gorgeous San Diego skyline backdrop.

Kristy set the tone with her favorite piece: a gold-sequined runner that lined the 30-person table. Subtle antique touches followed such as amber glassware, mercury glass, unique jewelry boxes, and baubles, lending vintage charm. Gold-rimmed plates and glasses along with beautiful gold-print menu cards, trimmed in gold sequins, carried on the theme. With an inclination for clean, modern lines, Clint’s influence appeared in the all-white palette of flowers ranging from orchids, parrot tulips, roses, and anemones. For a fun and memorable farewell at the end of the evening, guests were given sparklers along with a note reading, “Send Kristy & Clint off in a flurry of love & sparkle as they say ‘adieu’ the night before they say their ‘I dos!’ ” The result was a spectacle of glittering light to celebrate their love and union.

  • Don’t skimp on the décor. “I think that creating the right ambience with your tablescape is just as important as the food you’re serving.”
  • Have a wow-factor for your guests when they walk into the room. “If we didn’t have that sequin runner, the table wouldn’t have made such an impact.”
  • Create a festive personalized surrounding for your guests. “Even if you have your rehearsal dinner at a restaurant, you should always spruce up the tables with decorations.”
  • Have an exciting exit plan. “The sparklers at the end of the night were a surprise for our guests, and it is something they will remember from that night.”
