Ballet on Fire

There’ll be a hot time in the old town Nov. 3 and 4 as our finest local classical ballet company goes up in flames. City Ballet launches its 15th season with “Ballet on Fire,” an exciting lineup of kinetic, high-caloric expenditure including the likes of Stravinsky’s The Firebird, Kha - chaturian’s Spartacus (the pas de deux choreographed by Yuri Grigorovich) and Asafiev’s Flames of Paris (the pas de deux choreographed by Vasili Vainonen). City Ballet’s resident choreographer, Elizabeth Wistrich, prom ises to ignite all the excitement in The Firebird as well as something called Stravinsky Suites. Though it all sounds very R-r-russian, Stravinsky became a U.S. citizen, as did George Balanchine, whose famous New York/George Gershwin ballet, Who Cares?, is also on the program.
