A Better Best
Inside
WE HAVEN’T QUITE saved the “Best” for last this year, but it is arriving a bit later than usual. That’s because we’ve been busy gearing up for our biggest “Best of San Diego” celebration ever. And it begins in this month’s issue, with San Diego Magazine’s most extensive spread of “bests” ever.
Contributing writer Marcia Manna took the reins this year, leading the editorial team and delivering nearly 100 of the more eclectic standouts among San Diego superlatives. Manna and her coterie combed the county’s nooks and crannies to bring you everything from the “Best Terrain for Taming a Mechanical Bull” (U-31 Cocktail Lounge) to “Best Place to Watch a Band from a Balcony” (Anthology); from “Best Place to Pamper a Pomeranian” (Windsong Resort for Pets) to “Best Place to Pick a Pear and Pluck an Apple” (Julian’s Calico Ranch).
So soak up all our suggestions for savoring the finest America’s Finest City has to offer, and get ready for round two. For more than a quarter-century, San Diego Magazine has produced “Best of San Diego” and “Best Restaurants” issues that are always among each year’s most popular. And this year, we’re inviting you to join us in celebrating the winners with our inaugural Best of San Diego Party. On August 22, from 5:30 to 10:30 p.m., on the Legacy Plaza of NTC Promenade, we’ll raise a toast to the best of the bests with food from more than a dozen of the county’s best restaurants, wine-tastings, music and lots more.
For more information on the Best of San Diego Party — benefiting the San Diego Fire Rescue Foundation — and for tickets, go to bestofsandiego2008.com.
Meanwhile, until we get the party started, you’ll have time to savor the rest of our August issue. Join s.d. liddick’s foray into the life and times of the other Aguirre brother. Gary Aguirre keeps a relatively low profile, but he shakes things up from San Diego to Washington. Catch Alyssa Holstrom’s high-fashion tour of San Diego’s chic downtown rooftops. In Dialogue, delve into the fertile mind of second-generation best-selling author Jesse Kellerman, who’s challenging his famous parents for prime shelf space in bookstores. In Travels, cruise France’s Southern Rhône region with Laura Byrd. And in our Insider column, party hearty with Isaiah Washington, Dylan McDermott, Kate Walsh and Billy Crudup at the U.S. Open party at the Hard Rock Hotel.
We’ll see you at our party on the 22nd.
