Groom's Day: Searching for Wedding Vendors

I’m five months away from the big day and so far we’ve covered:

Here's a quick update of some of our plans and vendors. These are the vendors that worked best for us. Have fun finding the vendors that will work best for you! There are many great wedding vendors in San Diego to choose from and you will meet amazing people along the way. Wedding Reception Entertainment

Since we’re focused on throwing the best party possible to celebrate our marriage, naturally we had to find the best entertainment. We looked at options for live bands but ended up choosing one of the best deejays in town, Tim Altbaum. At first, we really didn’t know why we would need to have a formal meeting with a deejay. After meeting with Tim, we felt otherwise. A deejay sets the pace of your reception. Music should always be playing as you transition from dancing to cake cutting, or from cocktail hour to dinner. We were extremely impressed with Tim’s presentation, which included sound bites from actual weddings and timelines. We will also be using Tim for lighting to help set the mood for a dance party. http://www.taproductions.com/

Wedding Flowers

For flowers, we found Wholesale Flowers in Linda Vista a good choice. Our plan for flowers is simple and the bride made all of the decisions. She decided to go with hydrangeas for bouquets, exotic succulents for centerpieces and hen and chicks for the groomsmen. Again, we set a time to meet with a consultant, and the meeting was extremely efficient. The store is fun and opens up the imagination. You might consider going there to explore even if you’re not planning a wedding. http://www.flowersandsupplies.com/

Wedding Cake

We chose Cake as our bakery. We were most concerned with taste above anything else. As we were sampling cakes, we both saved the banana chocolate truffle for last. Personally, I didn’t find this type of cake appealing. However, once we tasted it we knew this was the one. It was delicious and surprising. One thing I learned from this experience was that you don’t have to use fondant for a cake to look good — the women at Cake use butter cream instead. http://www.fabcakes.com/

Wedding Coordination

For wedding coordination, we were very happy to meet Nick & Aleah, a husband and wife team, at an Exquisite Weddings magazine event at the US Grant. We look forward to working with them for day-of-wedding coordination. http://www.goodlifeevents.net/

Table Linens

For custom table linens, we found A Perfect Table. At the same Exquisite Weddings magazine event, they had covered every vendor table with their linens; we were sold. We visited their new location near Imperial Beach and worked with them to find the perfect table setting. You’ll have a good time setting up your table within their studio. http://www.aperfecttable.com/

Wedding Photography

Nick Abadilla is a genuine guy with a passion for art and photography. He will be capturing our day with his distinctive photojournalistic style. To choose a photographer, we scoured at least 10 different Web sites until we found a photographer we thought would be a good fit for us. After meeting with Nick in his amazing studio in Little Italy, we look forward to working with him. Items up for consideration include whether to hire a photographer’s assistant and a videographer. http://www.abadillaphoto.com

Wedding Invitations

My fiancé found our invitation store, Daydreams Invitations & Accessories Inc. We just received the final invitations the other day and couldn’t be happier with the look. We decided to use their services for assembling all of the pieces to reduce the stress. For the price we paid, it was well worth it. If you do it yourself, you have to rent the special adhesive gun that will layout the glue so your invitations don’t look like they were pasted together by a group of fourth graders. http://www.daydreamsinvitations.com/
