Events by Design
I got involved in weddings because I spent many years assisting in the coordination of events for the United States Figure Skating Association when I was an internationally competitive ice skater. From Governing Counsel Galas, to Judges Dinners, to competitor parties I gained 10 years of event planning experience. In 2002 I created Events by Design with my partner. It was time to take off the skates, get out of the rink, and put my creative talents to work in a new way!
I find inspiration in people. You can always find inspiration in a person and their story. Their culture, their background, their trials and tribulations, their interests, their taste. It's all there, you just have to know how to transform it all into a living, breathing event!
My dream wedding would be a winter wonderland wedding with flocked trees, candle light, the bride arriving in a horse drawn sled. Sigh...So if any bride wants to create a winter wonderland in San Diego...I'm your girl!
My passion outside of work is my family. I know, it's so cliché but the fact is when you're blessed with a husband and 2 energetic boys you love to be with, there just isn't anything better. Since I am surrounded by boys, I live a pretty adventurous existence. Hiking, biking, camping, fishing, bowling and our favorite, going to the beach are just a few of our favorite activities.
My favorite part of a wedding is the moment just before the bride and her father (or mother, uncle, loved one) walk down the aisle. It is such a special moment that so few people get to experience. The moment between father and daughter, just before he hands his little girl over to another man...still makes me tear up to this day.
If I could travel anywhere, I’d tour the world experiencing all the culture and food the world has to offer. But I have to admit, Bora Bora is at the top of my list!
My advice to a bride on her wedding day is LET GO! You have worked so hard, emotionally, mentally, physically and financially for this ONE special day. Now, it's time to finally enjoy it! If you have hired the right coordinator, you most likely, won't know about all of the issues that occur on your wedding day. But if you do, just remember, this day will fly by faster than you know. Don't waste a single happy moment on anything that is out of your control. Many say your wedding day is one of the rare moments in life when you feel you are outside your body looking in. It is so special. DON'T MISS A MOMENT!
