Jennifer's Favorites
Mariachi Chula Vista
The first thing Karl and Jennifer decided they wanted at their wedding was the Chula Vista High School Mariachi Band, as they are big fans of the award-winning 15-member group.
“We found this band literally on a drive by,” Jennifer says. “They were playing at a pizza place off Rosecrans and we saw them through the window. We stopped and spent the whole night listening to them. We saw them whenever they played after that. Karl threw me a surprise birthday party one year and they played for us in the backyard, so it was fitting to have them for the wedding. We will continue to recruit them for all our celebrations.” 619.392.6618.
Gerardo’s Catering Taco Service
In keeping with their Mexican theme, the couple hired Gerardo’s to bring their street taco cart to the wedding. Jennifer loved having the casual fare available to the guests when they arrived and throughout the party.
“I found out about this family-owned company that cooks fresh, delicious Mexican-style street tacos on the grill from a friend. They served made-to-order tacos, both hard and soft, with great salsas,” Jennifer says. “The taco cart is turnkey and the owners are great to work with. We had them serve food throughout the cocktail hour until our caterer took over with more formal food service.” 619.461.4794.
Giuseppe’s Fine Catering
This upscale caterer is one of La Jolla’s favorites. Giuseppe also runs the café at the Museum of Contemporary Art. He favors California Cuisine with an Italian slant, and takes a farm-to-table approach so his ingredients are always fresh from local sources. Jennifer loved Giuseppe’s savory food and excellent service, which “gave our wedding a little bit more of an elegant feel,” she says. Giuseppe worked closely with Jennifer to produce her concept food-wise.
“It was Mexico meets Southern California with an Italian spin,” Giuseppe explains. “We served beef carpaccio, mango and smoked gouda quesadillas, halibut lemon mascarpone risotto, and spinach-filled ravioli with gorgonzola and toasted walnuts. We created a California wine country display with artisanal cheeses and charcuterie. We had Chino Farms roasted-corn salad and heirloom tomatoes.
“Honestly, it one of the coolest weddings I have ever seen,” he adds. “Very laid-back and very chic at the same time.” 858.220.1295, giuseppe@giuseppecatering.com.
