Editor's Letter

MY HUSBAND AND I WERE ON A YEAR-LONG sabbatical when we got married. We had sold our condo, ditched our cell phones and traded in our sedan for a used RV. By the time our wedding day arrived eight months later, we had traded in the six-wheeled chariot for a Peugot. We made many wrong turns, got lost in amazing towns, and even got stuck in a ditch. But we were in Tuscany. And mishaps were only going to make our experience more memorable.
On our wedding day, we took photos in a field of blooming poppies. And when we walked out of the centuries-old town hall, it seemed the entire town was waiting at the bottom of the steps.
If I could do it again, I wouldn’t change a thing. It didn’t matter that my hairstylist didn’t speak a lick of English. That my dress was a smidge too big. Or that my limo was a dusty Peugot. It was our day, and we infused it with the things we love: wine, rustic Italian food, and friends who would share comedic moments.
This is why I especially love the Real Weddings we feature in this issue. Each one showcases personal style—from a groom dressed in red-and-white pants and spurs to a couple that used the Anza Borrego desert as their inspiration. The one commonality among these celebrations is each couple’s goal to give friends and family a truly memorable time. They infused their day with a little wit, a lot of cleverness, and every bit of themselves. Of course, it didn’t hurt that they had some of San Diego’s best wedding professionals on their side.
If it’s inspiration you need, read on, as these profiles will nudge you in the right direction. And you might even find the exact centerpiece, shoes or suit—we’ve got pages and pages of gorgeous photos to help you dream. After all, it’s your day. Do it your way. And don’t forget to tell us about it at exquisiteweddingsmagazine.com.
Happy planning!
