My Dream Ring

I can’t believe I’ve yet to mention my ring! It’s my dream ring and I can’t stop staring at it. If I failed to mention this before, Rich proposed with a family ring. What an honor! The original ring belonged to his Great Uncle who gave it to his wife on their 50th wedding anniversary. The ring was eventually passed on to his parents who then gave it to Rich this past Thanksgiving (I think it was a hint for him to hurry things along).

Rich and I decided to have the ring reset so I could have something of my very own. I lucked out big-time because not only did I get the honor of having a ring that belonged in the family but I was also able to take that and design my dream ring. Something I’ve been dreaming about for a loooong time.

We took the ring to Charles Koll Jewelers (www.charleskoll.com) in UTC. (I believe there is one in Fashion Valley as well) We decided on them because Charles Koll was South African and began his jewelry career in Pretoria, South Africa. Too fitting! Oh and the service was incredible, too.

On our first visit we met with Khai, one of the designers. He was incredibly helpful and really made Rich and I feel comfortable. We had no idea what we were doing as neither of us have made such a jewelry purchase before. Khai walked us through some of our options letting me try on ring after ring.

It was a lot for us (Rich) to take in at that time and we decided to think about it some more before making a final decision. We stopped into another jeweler and had such a different experience than we’d just had with Khai and I think that really helped make the decision a little easier.

A few hours after we got home, and after Rich checked and double-checked his financial situation, we giddily drove back to Charles Koll to tell Khai we were ready to take the plunge.

Over a glass of scotch, we decided on a combination of two different settings. I’ve always really liked the vintage look and I wanted it to be something that was timeless and classic. We kept the diamonds from the original ring and incorporated them into the new setting.

I’m ecstatic about the final result! They took very good care of us throughout the entire process. The ring is absolutely gorgeous and I’ve already received a TON of compliments on it in just the few short weeks it’s been on my finger. I know this ring will be in our family for a very long time, as I can’t wait to pass it along to my children someday.

So without further ado…. here it is!

Shelby you did such an incredible job designing this ring and I LOVE the fact that it has past history and new history that you can pass along to your children. I can't wait to see it in person this weekend!
